Wimbledon. It 'a word that means the best in tennis.
Although it is primarily the name of the London suburbs, millions of tennis fans around the world is short of sportsmanship, athletic prowess and celebrity stardom. For half a million people who can see at least part of the annual championship games in person, it also means a big social event.
One of the great things about the championship tennis tournament played every summer at Wimbledon is that it is one of the few major sporting events, where the average fan (ie not rich or well connected) has a decent chance access.
It is interesting to play Wimbledon ultimately owe their existence not to tennis but to another, quieter, games were all the rage among the Victorians: croquet. They could see was the private club that sponsors the World Championship Tennis prominent was founded originally as The All England Croquet Club.
Founded in 1868, the club has held its first tennis championship until 1877. These games have seen a few hundred spectators in what is described as an "atmosphere of the garden party."
For a long time now the club's name is The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon, in the presence of more than 500,000 people and led to millions around the world through the media and the Internet.
The tournament starts six weeks before the first Monday in August and lasts about two weeks. Players from over 60 countries regularly compete.
If you will be in London during the week in June or July 2nd when the tournament is played, is to see at least one or two games would be a wonderful experience for any tennis fan. So how can you score a ticket to the greatest of all tennis events?
If you really want to watch Wimbledon next year, you must enter the ballot (or lottery) which is held every January by the Centre Court and Court No. 1 seats. You will need some luck to pick up a ticket that way, but worth a try. Most of these Wimbledon packages include transportation, lodging, and perhaps some local side tours, besides the actual bills. This is a convenient way to get to the tournament, if you like the approach of all-in-one for the travel purchase. If you're more of an independent traveler, who could not be more comfortable that way.
You can find the organizers of Wimbledon on the Internet by searching on "Wimbledon tournament travel" or "pack of Wimbledon."
There are also a number of online ticket brokers, some of which specialize in sporting events such as Wimbledon. They buy tickets from willing sellers and reselling them to willing buyers, or they simply bring buyers and sellers to make their own agreement. Brokers make their money through fees and commissions they charge for this service.
Finally, you can also line up for tickets during the tournament.
Several thousand tickets on the day the sale was made public, while games are underway. You must be present and ready to take on the timeline to get one of these. In the end, you still may lose, but if you're in the area anyway and have patience, you should arrive early and have a go at it.
If you are an avid tennis player or a fan, or both, Wimbledon is an event that has to do in person at least once in their life.
See you in court side?
